What is Get Permission?

Get Permission is a relationship-based approach used to support families who have children with feeding challenges. In this approach, adults support children to "give permission" by actively building trust between children and their caregivers at mealtimes. Get permission strategies are based on typical development and help children discover their internal drive to eat through appetite, enjoyment, and trusting relationships. Children who participate in feeding therapy using the Get Permission Approach develop the skills, confidence, and internal motivation they need to thrive.

Course Objectives

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe anxious eaters and how they influence entire families and their mealtimes
  • Describe the importance of and specific strategies to help promote enjoyment, confidence and internal motivation at mealtimes.
